Woe Unto That Soul! Poem by Mohammad Younus

Woe Unto That Soul!

Woe unto that soul!
The lover of this sad earth,
Who, in this troubled world—
Unjust and blind,
Unmindful of Genius,
Treasure of celestial wisdom.

Within his solitary soul,
Enshrined, illusions dark—
Woe unto that soul!
For Illusion's pangs impure,
Like the undying vultures',
Will be driven out
From his noble heart,
That must celebrate
Each triumph over darkness.

And still content, because
Confidant, he won't suffer doom—
Who receives cool light from Heaven.
So that his destiny on earth
May be pleased and pleasing,
Who would endure with joyful calm
Each test and trial for his love;
The prize of Genius, thus ensured—
No mortal flame can stir his soul.

The clear divine light, so pure and high,
O'er which nor time nor death
Can have control.
Glorious pleasures and ecstasies,
Freedom from suffering, his reward;
Wisdom and knowledge, his reward.

So rejoicing in his tranquil flight,
More upward, soars sublime
In heaven's eternal light.
