Writing Is The Development Of The Development! Poem by Denis Martindale

When ideas come, a poem starts
And settles in our minds and hearts,
And with it, sights and sounds in time
That often phrase into a rhyme.
Perhaps a title's on its way,
And then a new verse comes to stay,
Once wisdom shines and gets increased,
That first line must come soon, at least.

Then, all at once, the poet smiles,
Intrigued enough to use his wiles,
Intrigued enough at what to write,
In chosen styles meant to delight.
Perhaps a Princess, hair of gold,
With her sweet story to get told,
With royal status all worked out
And beauty that no man could doubt!

A noble parable to share
That one day leads some folks to prayer?
Or could it be some epic tale?
Adventures of an alpha male?
Oh, gosh! Oh, my! What's coming next?
The poet's puzzled and perplexed!
The final typed-out verse looms close!
What will it say? God only knows!
