Yalda Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Yalda

Yalda

I had my best night's sleep
A baby in peace;
In the ‘Longest Night' of the year
In the Northern Hemisphere
"Yalda"
Let others name it:
Winter solstice
Hibernal solstice
Astronomical phenomenon
Whatever
Some say:
"We Sleep Better on the Solstice! "
Is it true?
Do we?
I did…
Next morning started with a poem
Mt. Rainier National Park
-Linda Bierds
I felt the road to Paradise
Though know nothing of that Park!
Psychological?
Of the season?
Of my mood?
Of my action?
I called all the girls named "Yalda"
Greeted them for their Birthdays.
I felt the moon on my face
And mountain at my back;
Felt my past
-A shoeless child,
Running on rough roads...
Fun, fun, fun…
With the Ocean of Storms and rising dust
From the breeze, wind and occasional vehicles
Heading for mountains
For us…
Felt the moon's widening shadow
Kepler, Copernicus, Archimedes, Aristotle
And Khayyam in the wide open fields of fertility
And thought of the harvest
In summer.
