What is This
in our deepest core
that keeps on loving
when we shut our doors,
What is This
at the heart of us all
that rises into life
every time we fall,
what is This
that keeps
on loving
though its heart has wept
and its sorrow
washed the floor,
my friend cried for days
when her wee dog died
and now another wee fellow
walks by her side,
oh! the heartbreaking beauty
of a love
that says yes
one more time,
what is This
in our deepest core
that keeps on loving
when we shut our doors,
Jesus knew,
he said
'Father forgive them
for they know not
what they do'.

At our deepest core we are one or the other. Broken and self-destructive or else light and compassionate, hopeful and resilient. What you describe is that crystal spirit that better part of us beyond the noise of our world and beyond our own confused selves. The loving beyond the shut doors, our better selves.
