Yesterday Poem by Sana Olivia Hernandez

Yesterday

Last night,
Was not my best night.
No,
It was filled with dark, cold fright.

The day was too long,
Filled with many wrongs.

I was mad!
And very sad...

Enough!
I've had it!
And I wasn't alone.

But that was yesterday...
I'd rather be happy and kind today,
So I will.

Who will you be today?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My mother always told me to take things one day at a time, so I do.

That is a great closing line, one that truly resonates beyond the limits of the poem it concludes. It's a very challenging question because the implication is we SHOULD plan who we are so that we don't just bounce around, but act with purpose. I like the flow of this poem. It begins in doldrums, gradually brightens and ends with this assertion of a much better tomorrow! Give this poem to a friend sometime when s/he needs a boost!

What a constructive way to deal with one's own life! Good thinking.
