Justice Poem by Sana Olivia Hernandez

Justice

Rating: 5.0

What is justice?
Your enemy's blood?
Would that suffice?
Or would you rather steal what he loves?
His heart plunged in despair,
Never to surface?

Is vengeance justice?
Is it close enough?

An enemy you despise...
What would you do for their demise?

Dragging your enemy down into the pit.
And down in the darkness you will go with.

How many wrongs would it take,
To fill your heart with hate?

Your hand stained with blood.
You call it justice.
You will never be the same again.
Might I ask?
...Was it worth it?

Powerful piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with insight. Vengeance can hardly be called justice. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.

This is an admirably well-thought through poem. You don't appeal to sentiment or issue threats or display panic - all reactions we encounter every day when people confront bad news. And you don't patronize those who don't agree with your position. You are, in effect, inviting them to follow the same thought process, hopefully to the same conclusion. Your poem has the even temper and quiet authority we associate with the peacemakers and their appeals to our best instincts. Brava, Sana! (I think Maya Angelou would applaud your poem too.)
