Yesterday Poem by Kurt Beard

Yesterday

Yesterday made me sad
Sad to see those I know hated
Sad to see those who look like me hate
Sad to see the torches burn in the name of hate
Sad to see armed militias march in the name of hate
Sad to see God used to justify hate

Yesterday gave me joy
Joy to see those I know stand for love
Joy to see those who are like me stand for love
Joy to see prayers burn brighter than torches
Joy to see clergy march arm in arm in the name of love
Joy to see our God used to reconcile and love

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is in reaction to the white-supremacy riots in Charlottesville over the weekend. They left 1 counter protester dead and others injured. President Trump refused to condemn the Nazi groups and many defended them, including some of my friends. The attached image (not mine) is an iconic image between the hate group and the clergy
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Savita Tyagi 14 August 2017

It was a sad day for America. Hate does nothing but creates a path of destruction for common bond of love among country's citizens. Thanks for sharing.
