You Don't Sleep Alone Poem by Barry Middleton

You Don't Sleep Alone

you don't sleep alone
on dexamethasone
you lie wide awake all night

you may not hear a sound
as something creeps around
but never creeps into sight

still you know it is there
you feel its icy stare
you don't care anymore

you may not be in clover
but soon it will be over
then once more you can snore

no you don't sleep alone
on dexamethasone
you lie wide awake all night

you may not hear a sound
as something creeps around
but never creeps into sight

although it might
yes it might
yes it might

Thought-provoking poem. I know people who have had chemotherapy. Thanks for sharing.

When I was going through chemo I wrote a lot of unusual stuff induced by the steroid drugs and insomnia. Everyone's situation is different but for me it was an awful experience.
