You Faded Before My Eyes Poem by Amy Louise Kerswell

You Faded Before My Eyes

You were ill that I knew.
We hoped you'd get better.
The doctors said that the next time you went in,
you may not come home.
I knew time was short and you'd surely leave us one day.
But I just didn't no it would be such a short time in the end.

You was getting more ill day by day.
I watched you grow weak Dad.
And there was nothing that I could do.

I watched you fading before my eyes.
Every day I came to the hospital to see you.
I'd hope it wouldn't be the last.

The doctors told us time was short.
He said I'm sorry you Dad is dying.
Oh dad I hoped it wasn't true.

That was on the Thursday.
By the Sunday you were still here.
But i watched you fading before my eyes.
You no dad I'd of given anything to see you well.

On the Monday I had the call
They said you'd gone.
My eyes filled with tears.

You see you drank to much Dad.
You didn't mean to leave us I no.
I wish you could have stopped drinking.
Then you'd be here still
And I wouldn't of watched the strongest man I knew.
Fade before my eyes.
