You Would Not Believe Me Poem by Amar Agarwala

You Would Not Believe Me

If, I'd say I want not fame
Nor have some hope or fear,
If, I'd say I crave not wealth
Nor seek a beloved dear.

If, I'd say no friends I need
Nor my family near,
If, I'd say my loneliness
I shall easily bear.

If, I'd say no vanity
Would ever touch me now,
If, I'd say no night or day
Would reach me with their plough.

If, I'd say no bitter words
Could possibly aggrieve,
I know it's very normal
That you would not believe.

Know I stay in an enclave
Beside a cedar tree,
Not shackled by worldliness
For I've long been set free.

‘Tis strange from six feet under
I see the world pass by,
I subsist in blessedness
Expression may belie.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
TO BE AT PEACE

How to gather peace and live in blessedness has never quite been the forte of mankind. Immersed in his vanity, he does crave for such life-long, but it keeps out of his grasp. It is such an irony that when he does finally obtain them, it is perhaps a trifle late, but then the heavens do bestow these gifts.

Man always understands his life in retrospect, it is such a tragedy that the greatest truth always belies his intellect, while he endeavours life-long in futile pursuit of it.
