The book has words, a guiding light,
But light needs eyes to see it bright.
No creed, no church, no magic spell,
Can pull you up from your own hell.
It's you, the one who has to stand,
With honest heart and helping hand.
To own your path, your health, your way,
Your loved ones dear, come what may.
Your wallet too, a steady hold,
A story bravely to unfold.
The greatest power, strong and true,
Resides within, in me, in you.
Thirty-eight four, a milestone won,
A choice I made, my drinking done.
'One Day at a Time, ' a simple creed,
To plant the strong and sober seed.
AA's gentle, weekly call,
Helped me rise after the fall.
Rehab's start, a solid base,
Now freedom found, in time and space.
May your own strength light up your way,
And bring you peace, day after day.
