Your Promise Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Your Promise

Rating: 5.0

Time cruelly struck with cancer overwhelming
Forcing you to leave me, but not by choice
Because your life's journey reached its end
Forcing us to part, beloved beat of my heart.
You broke the promise made when first we met
When we became lovers, bountiful in our passion
Bold, young and resolute, such happiness and joy
Thinking we had found our own lasting paradise.
You promised never to leave me, our souls united.
But ruthless Death took you away into the grave
Soon I will follow stepping out into the darkness.
Oh, my beloved, you are the love of my life
And only promise you broke was to die before me.
Love, I know, survives the grave and we shall meet again.
