Your Queen Will Wait For The Night Poem by Dr Anthony Onoja

Your Queen Will Wait For The Night

If you like come home early,
tell the village elders
you got an urgent message from home,
tell them you need to inspect
your mouse trap before it gets late
My belly button,
such a lie is no lie
at all when your queen is waiting

She waits for the night,
the very one night
after seven moons and after the harvest,
that one night children play past the sunset,
this night there is no fear of what has been,
what is or what will be,
a night of absolute peace

It is such a night with
the moon so round and bright,
it is such a night,
maiden are looking for an excuse to dance,
it is such a night kings
and warriors return from their spoil

My odogwu remember homes way
All other nights are too soon,
or too late but this one is perfect,
for the arrival of a king,
the one she herself has crowned.
