Your Very Best Try Poem by Francis Duggan

Your Very Best Try

You only can be the best that you can be
Though some with this may well choose to disagree
Though some better than you when you were put to the test
How could you do better than doing your best
Though your best this time was not good enough
The opposition for you did prove that bit tough
Though losing is something anyone does not choose
For one for to win others do have to lose
To the winner go all of the glory and fame
And the loser does become a forgotten name
In being out of the limelight no prestige to gain
For the winners the glory the fact does remain
You did lose with grace as none can deny
And at least you did give it your very best try.
