Zika Virus Poem by Daya Nandan

Discovered in 1947 in the Zika forest in Uganda,
The virus spread far and wide like an effective propaganda,
Spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes to the people of earth,
Causing microcephaly in newborn infants at birth,

Thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains,
Because the virus infecting pregnant mothers without mercy or shame,
The shameless Zika virus of the flaviviridae species that we know,
When it infects people, there will be many symptoms that will show,

Fever, conjunctivitis, headaches, vomiting, joint and muscle pain,
retro-orbital pain and diarrhoea that may cause you to complain,
Only 1 in 4 infected people experience symptoms lasting about a week,
Not dangerous enough to kill but enough to make adults feel weak,

The virus has not yet arrived in our beloved Malaysia as far as we know,
So lets do our part to make sure it does not spread in our home and grow,
Lets take part in eliminating mosquito breeding ground while we still can,
To protect our future and current patriotic generation of women and men.
