Sara Douglas Poems

The smallest leaf finds its way through the earth
There are forests of weeds
It’s a miracle it is surviving, still growing
My small little leaf, I wish I could hold you
...

I cannot even stand on my own
I lack balance that you hold with ease
I’ve never been strong enough
To say I left and didn’t turn back
...

I stick like Elmer’s glue
To anyone that gets too close.
I hope you don’t run too.
I know my imperfection glows.
...

It’s just to get by, just to survive
And every time you want more
Tell me; tell me, do you feel alive?
I want to know what its like to soar
...

I found myself lying dead on the floor
I can’t look in my own eyes anymore
I can’t imagine the revulsion I will see
Mirrors covered, I'm afraid of what I’ll be
...

Dwell in this prick of my skin
I know I shouldn't be here
Daddy's gonna be so angry
Momma's gonna be so weak
...

Bring new meaning to the oldest idea
On the lowest level you can see higher
I hardly live in the world around me
But it's always been something to inspire
...

There's a child in the window
And through it he can see the world
He wont waste strength to fold his hands
He knows that God is giving up
...

The Horizon soaks up the sky
Shadows wash your face
But I don’t need to see you
To feel your pure grace
...

I’m sure it will only take one look
To ask yourself why
You must have never known
How much it meant to die
...

The Purest Green

The smallest leaf finds its way through the earth
There are forests of weeds
It’s a miracle it is surviving, still growing
My small little leaf, I wish I could hold you
But my hands are filthy; I don’t want to disturb you
You are such a beautiful thing, the purest green.
I would sit and watch you grow if I could
You are a child of this earth, so innocent.
I envy you with respect
As you allow an ant to rest upon you
You’re nothing really compared to this place
But oh God you are another world on your own
Much smaller but so perfect
You are everything my small little leaf.
I will walk away and let you be, Ill be back.

But you won’t be there, you’ve long parish
Crushed by the hands of greed
Stomped down by society back to where you’ve come
Little did they see under there feet;
A world surviving with meaning they can’t even grasp
They have only known another green
An endless hole of hunger that they are falling into
They need food to fuel them, they need power
Isn’t it terrible my friend?
How they can’t even know what it means to survive
They can’t see past the money filling their pockets
But do not worry my friend. I see you all too well.
I will not let you parish, I will remember you
My small little leaf, you were the purest green
