I started expressing myself as a means to get over depression stemming from probably what is considered normal high school pressures and the search for my own identity and place in the world. I don't pretend to be any good, I like reading poetry and until recently didn't think I would ever write it. However, I have found it theraputic. Heat

I threw myself into your fire
I climbed your ladder to the sun
but it wasn't hot when i was done
your kisses burned
but the flames were dying
you didn't even feel like trying

i threw myself into your fire
the burns have left me scared
new skin can't make me whole again
i miss the heat on winter nights
i need time to let the embers cool
back to black and blue
