Stevie Hogendoorn Poems

1.

When you prefer to feed pride it becomes bigger.
Bigger than your heart, soul, than all your reasoning.
Anger and stubbornness will then prevail.
...

Some say love means working hard
Wounding the soul, leaving a scar
Shedding blood, sweat and tears
And that’s the only way to get far
...

I was a witness of loss and pain
In silence they encountered their grieve
Like clouds ready to burst into rain
Their second born passed and scattered beliefs
...

I had to let it slide
There’s no use pushing back the sea
The planets were aligned
Seems the universe wanted us to meet
...

In a garden at the oak your eyes stung and let me show
A glimpse of your heart inside
But you couldn’t give in ‘cause you’d be living in sin
Meaning you’re gonna loose your pride
...

I watch you sleep and it triggers me
To notice this is round number three
You and I have gone our own way
Both drifting to other parts of the lake
...

An indigo canvas on which the stars dance around the moon
A view that returned to me when your soul said hello to mine
Darkness waved goodbye and swept away shadows with its broom
My path has brightened even more for it’s you I have by my side
...

Let me gaze upon landscapes that caress my eyes
Let me hear melodies that addresses my soul
Let me smell the scent of food prepared from love
Let me drown in gestures that move my heart
...

I believe the path to enlightenment is a personal recipe
So I’m gathering the ingredients and take suggestions along the way
Though you are welcome in my kitchen to taste what I’ve prepared
Your taste may differ from mine ‘cause it might long for something else
...

The rules of religion
Once forced upon me
It turned into superstition
Faith suddenly ceased
...

Looking in the mirror dissecting myself
She told me that I could be a better man
Picking out self-help books from the shelf
“Take a look at this” a twelve-step plan
...

Earlier in life I heard a voice
beckoning to listen well
Explaining we have a choice
that in the light we shall dwell
...

Shall we walk together
Towards the sun lit sky
Pass the distant horizon
Beyond measuring in time
...

Death is a hollow word with a shallow meaning
It’s absent in the dictionary that contain my words
I speak of life after life for it is the body that is ceasing
Spirits will always travel between its realm and the earth
...

Listen, listen carefully
I know you can hear me
I see you looking in the mirror
When you’re in doubt, I’m there
...

Stevie Hogendoorn Biography

Living and discovering life. Poetry to me is the challenge to turn emotions into words. Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes they don't. I like the freedom in writing and it comes from the heart.)

Pride

When you prefer to feed pride it becomes bigger.
Bigger than your heart, soul, than all your reasoning.
Anger and stubbornness will then prevail.
They can destroy many things that you’ve gained from love, life and it will scar the beauty within yourself.
Though pride cannot be killed, you could choose to let it starve and let it think about the damage it has done.
And maybe it will be proud once again
