Theodore Penn Poems

The way of honesty hurts, brother,
but a better way? There is no other
I tell you the truth
I tell you the soul
...

Lives were meant to be lived in the open
Yet too afraid to admit we're broken
Finding locked chests with missing keys
Like a note in a bottle, thoughts sent out to sea
...

Somebody tell me about that girl
the one who stands out against the world

Her hair is in a ponytail
...

4.

Red
on white
My blood flows in the snow
from a knife this wound grows.
...

I'm leaving this town
gone without a crown
I'm packing my bags
hitting the road
...

His face was chiseled stone,
hand of thick leather,
his old bear shadow moved across town streets.
There was the great fire hanging from the sky.
...

I toss and turn within this bed
Phantom thoughts in a busy head

I tried to fly in my dreams
...

I love you
So before I go
I want you to know
...

Dreams can only hope to be true
on nights like tonight
stars fly by
filling the sky
...

Sunrise Sorrow

The way of honesty hurts, brother,
but a better way? There is no other
I tell you the truth
I tell you the soul

By myself on a hillside
feeling the wind's effect
The sun rising from her hide
I'm looking at the prefect
with grass a bright green
In the moment I find peace
but not is as it seems

I'm grateful and glad
no reason to be be sad
got family at home
food on my plate
at work I am known
with friends that relate
have a pal on the phone
the high is never late

You might say that my life is going swell
but inside I look at an empty well
Brother you do not know
Sister you do not care

For all that I am
is in all that they are
Does not matter who or what I follow
I give in, in the end and am left hollow
just left with hard truth to swallow

Do I run too much?
Am I not good enough?
Is it my insensitivity?
My years of total apathy?
The times I yelled too much?
My friend's dreams I crushed?
The bridges I have burnt down
and the walls I have built around

Around myself
By myself
Talking to myself

‘I have nobody to live for.' or so it seems
until I begin to hear my heavenly Father speak,

‘I have you here to fulfill my dream
be light to the world, watch their faces beam.'

‘My grace & love has brought you home.
so tell me my child, why do you feel so alone?
I was there when you cried when scraped your knee.
All those nights that you make your heavenly plea.'

‘Right now, feels like there is no vision to find.
Right now, you have no companion by your side.'

‘In this moment you do not know
but soon you'll see how far my love will go.'

Above the trees her rays begin to glow
