William K Duncan Poems

Every girl's a bottle away
Every girl never does what they say

The lies forgotten
...

Where I am is not where you are nor anywhere you can be
Where I am to you is far but as close as I can see

I sit here in my homeland far from home
...

Alone in the storm is where I roam
Let the wind carry me home
Let reality hold true
Let the rain soak me through
...

They say when your skint, your fiscally challenged
But I've been there before and I always managed

Stripped to the basics, now what do I need?
...

The heart is desperate
Desperation incarnate

Compassionate and passionate, it has it's place
...

The lonely girl sits alone and wonders
What might have been if only things weren't as they are
What if, what if? She ponders
If only those who hadn't shown me love when they had the chance would return from afar
...

I remember when I left you
Left you standing in the rain
Not a second thought
Not a concern for your pain
...

I've been strong and I've been weak
I've felt love and I've felt it break

I've thanked myself, right from the heart
I've broken down, right from the start

A Bottle Away

Every girl's a bottle away
Every girl never does what they say

The lies forgotten
The cheating dismissed
She won't even remember when he raised his fist

Police to remove him,
but now she knocks on his door!
She had enough,
but now she's back for more

From her statement,
to a smile
What's now past,
not even a while

Her only worry,
what will THEY say,
what will THEY think?
But where were THEY,
when she was at the brink?

2 strikes,3... maybe 4
Yet everything still the same as before

Whether she cries wolf now is anyones guess
As the people who care become less...
and less

All her talk and complaining,
burning bridges, straining friendships...
But whether good or bad,
it's always his name on her lips

Love and hate are both thoughts that consume the heart
Switching from one to the other isn't wise and not smart

What's true and what's false isn't told, it's shown
But she'll never see it for fear of being alone

And when it's all over for the last time...
again
She's turn to her last hope...
and last friend

And as she cries alone in shame after yet another pathetic display
She sits with her friend,
and drinks through the day

Because every girl's a bottle away
And every girl never does what they say.
