'Being Different'

What's normal to you is perplexing to me
What you see as strange is my daily ruitine
I watch all the glares you think I don't see
I'd like you to stop, but I know you won't be

It's sad, it's a shame, it's truly a waste
That your body remains, still taking up space
That you continue to breathe your spitefull breath
All the years of hatred-can you give it a rest?

You're society, the'in-crowd', the popular few
That fail to realize us outcasts are here too
So from your mouth when hatred is fleeing
Just remember: we're not really being different, We're just different beings

I really enjoyed this poem. My name is Phoenix and I have ADHD, OCD, autism, I'm Chinese, and at four days old, I was adopted into German family. Not many people know that about me but I'm very use to being the black sheep. But your poem helped me feel like I should embrace my differences and embrace them and never let them go. (Report) Reply

Hi Margy I'm so glad you enjoyed it! My 'different' is just being on the mid-to-low end of the high school popularity chain, which isn't great. You have to take a lot of crap from people who probably don't even know your first name. That's my different and thank you for sharing :) (Report) Reply

Hi my name is Margy and I really like your poem and I can relate to it. I have asperger's sydrome or high functioning autism.
I hope it isn't rude to ask what your different is. I'm new to the site and I submitted my first poem today 'Letting life happen.' If my question is too personal you don't have to say (Report) Reply
