Of The Darkness

Dreams that fill my heart
Merely empty fragments
Of my former happiness

Smile that crosses my face
Merely an empty gesture
Of my old former self

Tears that fall to the earth
Merely an empty sign
Of my deadening pain

Eyes that dim and fade
Merely emptying of life
Of all spirit and love

Heart that crumbles to pieces
Merely emptying of soul
Of all sane truth

Life that smoulders to ash
Merely an empty sign
Of the price paid

Love that grinds to dust
Merely an empty sign
Of the pain inside

Hate that fills the walls
Merely an empty sign
Of the lonliness

Of the darkness

poet Henry David Thoreau

Whate'er we leave to God, God does,
And blesses us;
The work we choose should be our own,
God leaves alone.
