2020 Poem by Ray Hansell

2020

No justice, no peace
Defund the police
Cries that fill the air
By many filled with despair
Marches turn to violence
While most politicians go silent
Business destroyed
Owners left annoyed
Building burned to the ground
Looters take all that's found
Death and destruction all around
Middle ground can't be found
Nobody's right, if everybody is wrong
As Buffalo Springfield said in their song
A high price paid on both sides
Nowhere left to run or hide
Neither side willing
To compromise
Many times the message gets lost
Usually at a very high cost
When tempers flare emotions take over
As people lose their composure
I believe in demonstrations
Anywhere in this nation
But when itcomes to kiiling
That cannot be fulfilling
This pertains to both sides
From this neither can hide
That's when the message can get lost
Murder is a line that should never be crossed
March all you want from morning till night
I absolutely believe that's your right
But when live's are taken along the way
That's a price both have to pay
