#205 The Sound Of Us Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#205 The Sound Of Us

Here we sit in each others clutch,
Beside the lake, beneath the moon.
We’re miles from the cities touch,
Loving nature’s peaceful tune.
The water ripples, a cool wind blows,
The twinkling stars love us.
Night is the only one who knows
This is the sound of Us.

Too soon comes the time to leave,
I say “I wonder which comes first,
Our arms wanting to unweave
Or Forever’s initial burst? ”
She replies “I bet Forever will come
Before us wanting to untruss.”
With a slight smile, she whispers “Hum...
I think I like the sound of ‘Us’.”

I cannot for the life of me
Repress my silly grin,
For the sweet voice of Amalie
Speaks the words I feel within.
So we don’t budge, move or stir
But embrace nature’s soft fuss
Well passed the midnight hour,
Listening to the sound of Us.
