#281 Too Suddenly Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#281 Too Suddenly

Suddenly.

Watching the slowly fading day,
I sat upon the playground sand.
I scooped a pile into my hand
And let the breeze carry it away.

The brilliant sky was orange and pink
With splotches of blue sapphire.
Growing darker than the minute prior,
The sun was determined to sink.

Dusk made the serene evening colder
And my raging soul became still.
I was alone and in love until
There came a tapping on my shoulder.

Turning around I froze in awe,
I beheld more beauty than that sky.
You didn’t speak, nor could I;
I couldn’t put into words what I saw.

I took your hand and swiftly arose
With a million questions within:
Why are you here? Where have you been?
But none really mattered, I suppose.

You wrapped your arms around me,
Pressed your body against mine,
Laid your head on my jaw line
And smiled satisfyingly.

There was no music, no emo band,
No romantic melody,
Just hearts beating collectively
As we spun in circles in the sand.
We danced for hours into the night,
Forgetting all worlds but ours.
The night was decked with stars
And the moon cast the perfect spotlight.

Then the moment came so fast,
I sampled your lips, so pure.
It was new but familiar,
Like the first, hundredth and last.

Your flavor was sweet and defined,
Like smooth dark chocolate and mint
With just the slightest hint
Of honey, but more refined.

I was falling for your taste,
I just couldn’t get enough.
I fell even further in love,
Losing caution and making haste.

The world began to spin about,
I felt affably dizzy and faint.
Your kiss was like sniffing paint,
But stronger and with more clout.

And the eyes closed tightly in my head
Opened to darkness where you had been.
Just as before, you were gone again
And I awoke peacefully upon my bed.

Too Suddenly.
