36 Poem by Tori Bachue

36

What flows underneath
Drops of this could save a life
If you stayed – I’m here
Maybe you just didn’t look hard enough

What would you do?
People don’t believe in kings anymore
But drag and drag on
The clenching hands around your ankle
And the pull, desperate pull
It’s all there is

Finish what you started
Sell that smile of yours
Maybe hell will permit him to go home
In time, as it ticks
The end coming closer
And whimper

What resonates through the fog
The sound of a monster
One horrible cry
What you feel is real

The road lies ahead
Only whispers at your back
Lovely red and fire and
Maybe it’s worth dying for
