.5. Hiding In My Wardrobe Poem by David Threadgold

.5. Hiding In My Wardrobe

What lurks within my wardrobe
Be it friend or be it foe
I stay awake the whole night through
In case the thing might show

I’ve heard it rattle hangers
A thud when something fell
Now every time that I walk by
There’s a funny kind of smell

Last night as I lay watching
I must have started nodding
Waking with my ribs in pain
From little brothers prodding

A noise had started in his room
He’d chased across the landing
It past right through my bedroom door
To where my robe was standing

We heard a kind of skuffle
Then something started scratching
We tried to show some courage
A plan had started hatching

Young brother held a candle
For me a baseball bat
But the smelly beast within my robe
Was our sisters old pet rat
