A Contended Retirement Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

A Contended Retirement

Its slumber all over the night
The dwelling of minstrels are heard
Here and there at the sleepy wet branches
Of the cherry trees at the window
Wherein the morning birds sing their
Choruses for the day's brightest songs,

The haunting souls of deceased past
Mild appreciations of sweetest moans
Greatest and awesome memories
Of youth and the stamina of life
Like a lonely but desperate ambush
Of a terror stabs my feeble heart,

Having no faith in love and its pains
Continuous betrayals and disappointments
Save me from the moments of vulnerableness
Giving me not of false but a genuine hope
To live and die in peace at end of the day
Like a retiring commandant of a battle
Paving the way for inexperienced recruits.
