A Devil Walked Down Poem by Amitava Sur

A Devil Walked Down

A cruel devil walked down into
That peaceful and quiet valley under a blue sky
Being surrounded by high mountains in nature’s abundance.
It dastardly attacked, tore and demolished
Anything and everything in that hilly place.
It ruined a society, a civilization, a history and lives
So cruelly it turned everything into dust.

We hear and are given to believe that
YOU are so kind to those whom you create,
Then why and how
Do YOU remain so cool, inert and inactive now?
How YOU digest this dastardly acts on them.

Are YOU truly kind to those whom you create?
Or am I to believe something just the opposite?

News about the earthquake was devastating, so many people losing their lives or being hurt badly. I could not believe it! All these people now without homes, food, water, and family members, it is so unjust, so cruel. It makes you wonder why these things have to happen on earth! It is just unbelievable how so much has been destroyed in Nepal. My heart goes out to the people of Nepal, I pray that they receive the help they need. Great poem, Amitava! You have captured the devastation of a civilization in your poem. Thank you for sharing, RoseAnn

I have considered Nepal, Kathmandu, and Mount Everest as magical places where people can go to help some of there dreams come true. It is very sad to see all the destruction and suffering that has fallen on the area.

So shocking was the news of the Nepal Earthquake! Each time we see from the TV and read from the news papers about it, we come to know how devastating it was and how miserable is the plight of the survivors! Let us all stand by the affected and render what little help we can offer them! The doubt raised is everyone's doubt! But many things lie outside the ken of our 'puny' understanding!
