A Different Morning Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

A Different Morning

Rating: 5.0

And I hear the clutter of wheels
And shouts of the hawkers
From the dusty street

I feel the wind against my face
And stop breathing for a while

It smells of rotten vegetables
From the road side drain

I shut the windows and think
About you sitting on the wooden cot

You will be getting ready for school
Wearing your pink saree
You must be thinking if the auto
Will come or not

As incessant rain has killed
The cattle and dragged the corpses
To deposit at the middle of the road

The wind has stopped
Behind the building where from
Sound of harmonium spilled into the street
