A Dollar Identified Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

A Dollar Identified

So precious is money.
And has become,
A symbol to idolize.
More than faith to claim,
Without money to have it...
Difficult it would be,
For anyone to survive.
And this is true.
Without money to have it,
Nothing in a materialistic...
Capitalistic driven society,
Can be accomplished.
Other than poverty.
And 'that' to accomplish,
In these days of deprivation.
Few will admit to say,
This goal for them...
Has been reached successfully!

However...
When people can no longer,
Pretend of having to obtain...
Common sense.
Or can spell 'respect' to show,
Something about it they know.
Yet...
Can identify a dollar.
That has been caught up,
And blowing away.
In the winds of a hurricane.
A storm threatening event.
People will not for a moment,
Hesitate to think...
About their lives jeopardized.
To chase that dollar!

And regardless...
If there trees and houses,
Uprooted.
From secure foundations.
With flying debris.
And cows mooing.
Squeezed of their milk.
Pouring down as if white rain.
That's how important,
A dollar to have it has become.
To possess and to impress.
Others.
Others who may not,
Have seen that dollar...
Being whipped around,
In hurricane winds.
From basements or bathtubs,
They may have hidden in.
To protect themselves.
But that one who saw that dollar
With cows heard mooing.
Lifted off the ground.
Will do everything they can,
To get that dollar!

It may take,
A longer time than anticipated.
To make many convinced,
Their priorities to delude them...
Is in severe need of evaluation.
And that time has come,
For them to realize...
The real threat.
Besides a virus spreading,
Pandemic.
But that 'normalcy' back.
Attached to a dollar identified,
As validation of its return.
