A Doom-Bound Nation Poem by Frank Adie

A Doom-Bound Nation

A doom-bound Nation

Our Ship of State is doom-bound
Who can steer it to safety?
An eventual catastrophe awaits our nation
Unless we stand up to the forces of our impending doom
Poverty and hopelessness is ubiquitous in our land
The disastrous aftermaths of a nation pillaged by greed

We did ask Andrew not to check out
Promising that Nigeria would be better
Forty years down the line, the light of hope is yet to shine
Andrew is now an old man
Doomed in a nation blessed by God, but cursed by men

Our nine thousand naira that could buy a brand new car in 1977
Can no longer buy a bag of rice in 2017
Our sins of greed and avarice has made vain
The labour of our heroes past
And our nation is no longer bound
In freedom, peace and Unity.
