A Dot In The Universe Poem by Doris Cornago

A Dot In The Universe

Rating: 5.0

Hold this moment, breathe in and out
Notice the rise and fall of your chest
Your mind wanders but you haul
It back, turning it around on
The moment, catch this
A dot in the universe
Expanding into
A breath
Wisp
Of
Your
Life
In
This
Moment
Unveiling
Like whorls of
A tree stump, not
The tree but just its
Particular cut trunk in
Accounting for its whole life
The number of whorls counted
Every year spent, expanding the trunk

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A tree's life could be counted by the whorls in its trunk, this is a scientific fact. Each ring represents one year of life for the tree researchers begin with the innermost part of the core (called the pith) and count outward toward the bark until they determine the age. Reflecting on that, what's the number of years will it take to make you stand tall and straight like a tree? Just one fact that makes all dots important, a tree is not less. Neither are you.

This is an exercise of mindfulness, how to avert a spiraling depression. Don't go into the hole, my friend. Le me draw you out. Be a tree if you are tired of being a human, see those whorls, a lot of effort but worthwhile. (Report)

Hi Savita, it's my pleasure to connect with you through trees. People are more than trees but most would not be proud of the life they're having. Have you ever wondered if some trees would want to be human, or some humans would rather be trees?
