A Few Words To You On Ching Ming Festival Poem by Cigeng Zhang

A Few Words To You On Ching Ming Festival

Rating: 5.0

Why is everything so short, so short?
Just like a flowering day quickly past
But I always remember the briefness
that concentrates your life full of vitalities
One day sooner or later I'm getting old
Your soul is still that young and brilliant
I always want to say to you my dearest
You are the newborn April shine in my heart
Your existence used to be my best love -
An incredible beauty carved in my mind
I feel you deeply in my soul, never depart
You are the never ended flower in my world

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
*Ching Ming Festival (as the Pure Brightness Festival) , normally falls on the 4th or 5th of April, between spring plowing and summer weeding. It's a time to pay respect to the ancestors or the beloved ones who passed away. On the day, the family members go to the gravesite of the dead to lay flowers and clean away the overgrown grass and dust from the gravesite.

This poem is dedicated to my mother and father who left me before this year. I miss them so much...

This is a very moving poem, I felt a stillness settle around me as I read it because I knew it was addressed to your parents. The last seven lines are pure radiance. You express such gratitude to your parents for making you and nurturing you - in fact, the gratitude is so strong it seems to wash away the sorrow. And that's the purpose of such a festival, it's the same purpose poetry has: to express strong feelings withoput any trace of negativity so that all is sweetness and light. I feel a glow inside me after reading this. It will soon be the third anniversary of my mother's death, and I am sharing your poem with my twin sister. She doesn't read poetry in general, but this one will speak to her.

Thank you Daniel for your touching comment. I felt comforted when you said you were sharing this poem with your sister. We once experienced the same loss and pains; so, hope this poem would be a small comfort to you too. Stay blessed ~
