A Hero For Us All (Forever In Our Hearts) Poem by Cameron Gallant

A Hero For Us All (Forever In Our Hearts)

A great friend, a great man, in the Great War.
But the war wasn’t great, so why do we call it so?
He passed like so many before, a fallen warrior.
But he passed not from his fault, but that of others.

The men sent Private overseas to aid us.
And Private volunteered to protect our Land of the Free.
Although he fell on battlefront in hands of his commander,
He died a noble death and hallowed liberty.

We mourn the passing of our best friend, our brother.
He was a man, an honest man of loving.
Deployed to keep us safe, our soil clean.
Perhaps no greater hero ever lived.

But Private, no matter how many steps apart now,
Our memory of him shall never tarnish.
We hold him in our thoughts and we hold him in our hearts.
A great friend, a great man, a hero for us all.
