A Break In Love Poem by Cameron Gallant

A Break In Love

To breakup is to break a heart
Most often, one only needs a break
But sometimes the love between two truly breaks
And marks the end of a relationship, creating broken dreams

Like the failure of a brake
Like a sprinter breaking far too slowly in a race
Like two magnets breaking away
Reversed poles causing the separation

Harsh as the breaking of a rack in Billiards
Empty as a break in a line
Yet sometimes, the breakup becomes like breaking the surface of turgid waters
When the fit was never right, the only impediment is time
