A Hot Summer's Night Poem by Reva Kern

A Hot Summer's Night

It's late summer
Evenings are hot
Hard to sleep
Windows are open
Crickets loudly chirp
Then silence
All is calm -

Yapping and yelping
Break the serenity
Growing in intensity
Growing in numbers

The coyotes* call
Gathering all together
To join in
The evening's hunt -

The first call
Of the year
Loudly announcing
The coming of Fall.....

*a wolflike wild dog native to North America.
