A Journey Called Life Poem by SREEJITH KULAPARAMBIL

A Journey Called Life

Rating: 5.0

A miniscule sperm I was,
When I entered the womb
Ran fleetly beating my counterparts
Searching the land of pleasance for solace
Those nine months,
In the womb of my mother,
Filled with warmness and love,
Moments were timeless,
I sensed nothing, but the joy of eternity!
Then the moment arrived,
My ecstatic rapture was shattered
I was pulled out, without my consent
Dropped on earth, to fight for life..! !
Though she was there with her warmth and love
Yet eternal moments did not last
Tranquility became matter of past
I was fragile and impuissant
Watching impotently my misted present
Many faces held me with love and care,
Yet few annoyed and frighted me with their stare
Seasons passed and I grew to a yearling
Stepped out with a zest to conquer, though toddling
Childhood days once passed, you will never find
Memories of yesteryears brings nostalgic feelings in my mind,
Those were the years,
My spirit thrilled with the wonders of life
Butterflies were beautiful, so does the sky
Chirping of crickets, and birds flying high,
Sun, Moon and Stars all were amazing delights
Even with kins and friends I enjoyed my puerile fights
Formal pedagogy was never my way
As every child I always yearned to play
Soon I entered the age of adolescence
The years when I first felt my youthful essence
My boisterous deeds made me proud
Applauds made me demigod among crowd
Mind was zestful filled with exuberance for life
Buoyant spirits were flowing without strife
Sensuous maidens were mesmerising
Revealing their youthful presence yet mystifying
But moments are ever changing, no two are same
Spicy maiden turned to an ugly dame
Crest of every mount follows the trough of a vale
Joy and sorrow are part of every tale
Sunny day follows a rainy one,
One has to play the game, even if there is no fun,
I was impelled to earn for my bread and butter
Thwarting my youthful spirit, yet I could not utter
Hoarding wealth was my new aspiration
Worldly desires piled without realization
My greed rose to its culmination,
Yet my material race did not find a cessation
On way to success of my worldly path
I saw a sage meditating at the Ghat
I knelt before him for his divinely grace
He chortled, and said “search your real face,
The moments forgone will never return
This is life’s lesson that one should learn
Life is a chance for seeking essence of soul,
Do not spoil it only for worldly goal,
Death may part you from this flesh and frame,
Yet your inner essence will remain same.
Arise, from your deep slumber of desire
Begin the journey of life afresh with a spiritual fire
You have to go far and deep to search the soul
Quit not till u reach your ultimate goal”.
