A Letter Mailed (Without A Stamp) Poem by Bryan Taplits

A Letter Mailed (Without A Stamp)

'Your friends told me you are doing fine
This I'm glad to hear,
I'm just afraid that you are not pining
As much as I am, my dear.
I don't wish on you my grief,
Or any kind of woe,
But I'm just a little puzzled
And there are things I'd like to know:
Do you miss me as much as I miss you?
(There I've said it-and I'm not ashamed!) ,
The times we had-mostly joyful, some sad-
Our being apart? ! Some things are just not the same!
Please write me or phone me on your cell
And let by-gones be by-gones
(I admit my past infidelities ;) ,
There are still real feelings I have for you-
Despite your terribly stubborn and (I'm sorry to say this) deranged fantasies.
I'd like to end on a good note:
Remember Flossie and John?
They've unsaddled the horse and have gotten divorced
Each un-tethered
So their tandem has turned into one.
You can see now how much more fortunate we were
Once we too (two ;) were both in the zone,
But now each of us is blue, and we're no longer as new:
Why should the each of us be wanting and waiting? -
And waiting alone.'
