A Letter Never Delivered Poem by Daniel Goncalves

A Letter Never Delivered

I'm away with the army again, the proud soldier that I am,
Torn between two worlds becoming a man.
I often think of you and miss you. Kissing you and holding you in my arms.
Many nights I don't sleep or eat, counting down the days and hours until I see you again.
My beautiful wife the love of my life, my inspiration and my dream come true,
I remember when we bought a house and meant to start life anew.
Tears fall every night deep within me but I dare not show emotion here,
Thoughts of losing you to do this for my country kills me dear.
I often think of having our first child and growing old far from here
but death is all around me and fear my own is near.
To you my beautiful wife I love you, and for you, I'll do my best,
to come home and be reunited is truly the heart's worst test.
