A Merry Heart Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

A Merry Heart

Like a good medicine
It is the oil on a man's wagon
His sunshine in the rain
The breeze that blows his sail on.

A merry heart lasts longer
Prevents his bones from drying
Makes him do things better
His veins will not be clogging.

Arthritis will not pain him
And strokes are far behind,
His wrinkles will be few
For peace will fill his mind.

Wealth cannot purchase it
Nor surgery transplant
But a merry heart is nurtured
By a life that's free from want.

'A merry heart is like a good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.' (Proverbs 17: 22)

for me a good poem has to have something magical in it. this one has. 'his wrinkles will be few for peace will fill his mind' that is an universal truth. thanks for your warm letter and the feelings are mutual. life can begin at 60 too! may God protect you, john
