A Moment In Time Poem by soren Barrett

A Moment In Time

It was a time of innocence
A time of great expectations
When God still existed
And we believed in princesses
And frogs turned into princes
A time when everything was simple
When we trusted in promises,
Loyalty and true love
We were young
And the morning of life had just begun
Everything was a game,
Full of dreams and imagination,
Nothing was impossible
On that outstretched road
To our enchanted destination
So with a magical belief
Hand in hand
We built our castles,
And searched the sand
For promised buried treasure
Then with time
Came the little lies of life
That broke the rules of the game
Building barriers between us
Of tears, strife, anger, and blame
The game became war
Full of agony and pain
The once bright beach
Became a dark storm swept coast
Whose waves did roar up the shore
And in the dark
As we ran
We tripped and fell
Over those castles in the sand
And when I looked you were no more
Now my hair's gray, and my eyesight has grown dim
And from time to time, I close my eyes
Going back to that place sublime
Where all wishes came true
And all things were believed in
And on that enchanted beach
You come to me
And now I see
You're the lost princess
I've searched for, so long
And the lies have become
Nothing more
Than the weakness' and folly of youth
As we played our childish games
On that magical shore
The agony and pain
Nothing more
Than the rocks and stones
Upon which true love is built
And in my mind, we still play
In the ocean spray,
in that fanciful land
And nothing else matters
But that moment in time
When you held my hand
