A New Metaphor Poem by Barry Middleton

A New Metaphor

Rating: 5.0

death is not the setting sun
the sun will rise again
it is not the silence of midnight
for dreams are never silent
it is not a symphony ending
for then comes the applause

we need a new metaphor
death is not a crouching tiger
death is much more cruel than that
it is the blood ground into the dirt
the red meat left behind
the soul in elemental compost

death is not a burning house
it is not a scream of agony
death is the most utter aftermath
it is not the smoldering ruin
it is the future that never will be
it is ashes cold and washed by rain

death is not a journey to the sun
it is not the embrace of stardust
not the tears of the universe
death is cold
depleted
the darkness beyond all darkness

You can give to death all the names and characteristics life itself has not.But what is most undesirable and terrible is to live a dead's life which very often happens. That's why I appreciate your conception here.It shows so clearly what one would like life to be.kudos Barry.

What a creative write. Indeed death is darkness beyond all darkness. A terrible reality that is beyond comparison of everything terrible. A thing that man has brooded on since centuries but couldn't solve the mystery of. Very profound. A huge 10.
