A New Year Meal - Poem by Kumarmani Mahakul
Before the arrival of New Year,
We have invited you for celebration,
You have gathered in our city's heart,
Our palace is decorated well
With streets of departure
And with streets of entry,
For welcoming New Year,
We have prepared delicious meal.
Oh dear guests of Old and New Year,
You come soon and take your seats,
We shall offer you many foods,
The fragrance and taste you feel,
You can never forget such a meal,
First we shall offer you as guests,
Then we shall take later than you.
We have made white and yellow rice,
We have cooked sweet and sour rice,
Fried peanuts are added for taste,
Chickpeas are fried well for you,
Curry of pointed gourd is flavourful,
We have cooked mixed vegetables
With sour curry of tomato and arum,
We have made round cake in semomlina,
Inside this closed cake there is taste,
We have kept coarse coconut seasoned in sugar,
This New Year is very special for you and us.
Oh dear guests of New Year celebration,
Seats are ready, you come and sit soon,
Please give us opportunity to serve you,
Let us celebrate this year of happiness,
Welcome guests! Dear guests welcome!
Goodbye Old Year and welcome New Year,
We are wishing you very Happy New Year,
Offering our prayer before God for fortune,
We have purified this meal in God's grace,
Pure vegetarian meal without onion and garlic,
We have prepared carefully in God's memory.
Dear guests, you go green and go vegetarian
Giving promise to God to save his garden,
For maintaining ecological balance in universe,
For keeping animal rights and freedom in love,
Let birds, animals and other creatures celebrate
This New Year of joyful attitude and peace,
Sending this message to the modern world,
We offer you a delicious New Year meal.
