A Paranà Poem by Luz EtchemendiGaray

A Paranà

Original in Spanish translated to English by Daniel Ginhson with comments by Sue Littleto: .

Streets of my city
where I left the footprints of my small steps,
my father`'s birthplace,
where I saw first light,
the city of love and embraces,
the sloping bank of the wide river,
the islands I have so often dreamt...
the city of the jacarandà,
city of my adolescence, of the School
where the History of my country was written -
there, where my own history
also had its beginning

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Parana, province of Entre Ríos, is my hometown and the historical capital of Argentina,1853. It is a beautiful town built on a hill near a river, Parana. The imagens of Jacaranda trees and its violet flowers inspired me to write the poem.-
