A Phantom Ride Poem by Bryan Taplits

A Phantom Ride

The ride you gave me, Sweets,
Conveyed me to a new bliss,
But then I left to call another cab
To take me where I'd missed.
Darn!
I never found your cab again
Severing this new start,
Hoping always to find the token
Which had thieved away my heart.
Until then, I guess,
my unsuccessful dreamlike search
Will keep me ever looking-
Searching for what I had first
…Or perhaps…
The destination of that first fare
Is all that I had won
and that one prize that you gave me
Is all that I had bought.
