A Poem Of A Thousand Tears Poem by Pieter van Wyk

A Poem Of A Thousand Tears

As I stare into your eyes so cold
I can see the monsters untold
You spit your words of poisonous venom
You've made my heart go numb

You accuse
You abuse
You bruse
You forced me to lose

Once you were my hero
But then you made me feel like a zero
You beguiled me with the moon and the stars
Broken promises that only left scars

So, I became your puppet
With strings you controlled me, and you loved it
You manipulated me into acting on your command
On every sick and sinister demand

You drew me with your empty love
And I believed you were a gift from God above
When you were satisfied, you threw me away
And still I searched for a reason to stay

Somehow, I thought I was wrong
I tried to sing a different song
I tore pieces of myself away
Because I believed it was the only way

I climbed the mountains high
I even tried to touch the sky
To show you what I can do
But it was never good enough for you

So, I tried to say goodbye
But you vindictive and you were sly
As I ran away, you became the pebble in my shoe
So everywhere I went, you came too

I hate you for every moment you made me feel worthless
For making me live as if I have no purpose
For every time you've lied
For all the times that I cried

I hate you for shoving me into the corner
For being my marauder
Leaving me like a carcass
Dead and alone in the darkness

I hate that I loved you
I hate that I pitied you too
"Abusers were once abused, " they'll say
It was just an excuse to force me to stay

I can't stay in your shadow anymore
I cannot go on, not like before
I will escape, I promise you, I will
I will cast away my devil

People will criticize me for what I'll do
But I can't stay in the old, and hope for something new
People will accuse me for being wrong
But I cannot continue in being your pawn

A very poignant write. A vivid portrayal of pain, hurt and abuse. Well penned.
