A Poem's Like An Uncut Gem Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

A Poem's Like An Uncut Gem

Welled up from deep, words make a poem
That soon forges her own emblem.
An ever changing dame,
Never is she the same,
Like a river whereso she came,
Keeps changing all along her frame,
Never same as was sent,
Gaining and getting spent,
But ye cannot her blame,
Nor yet ever her tame;
Much like a letter once posted,
Poets tend to lose poem's thread,
Like a much chiselled gem,
She changes, keeps still her emblem.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

A poem is raw like an uncut diamond as soon as it is written. But it is being modified time and again by the poet himself or it it assumes new dimensions and interpretations by those who read them. In course of time, it undergoes a lot of changes! Once it is out on public view, a poet has no specific control on them! Beautifully written!

You're right Valsa George. A poem when comes to be, while it is conceived, it is like an uncut diamond. Here it is a product of heart. Then it is getting chiselled, polished, and getting studded with a lot of embellishments. Here it is taken over by the head. It may add beauty, but often tends to be a bit artificial. A poet has to weigh the trade-off. Thank you indeed.
