A Political Documentary
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
It has been a fun filled weekend
Enjoying Quentin Tarantino's latest movie yesterday
Going on a long drive and eating out today
And ending up at a vineyard, tasting and buying wine,
And which had a simply marvellous view
Of the vista of greenery beside a "silvery white" and emerald blue
Stretch of water with a tree of pointy flowers
Growing beckoningly on the banks;

It was a timeless classic, the view,
One which made me feel happy
In a land "above the rainbow"
We came home and since my husband
Is playing hard to get
After satisfying my whim to indulge in a romp last weekend
I decided to write about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly;

The Good is Justin Trudeau, PM of our country, Canada,
Painted out to be much worse than his record indicates
By the conservatives, the main Opposition party,
He has ensured that the lives of Canadians like me
Have improved for there is an openness
And Good performance oriented driving force in the Canadian government;

The Bad is the newly elected PM of Britain, Boris Johnson,
Who as an essay in the intl. edition of The Sunday NY Times (July 28th,2019)says
Is against existing immigration laws
But paradoxically, longs for the days of British imperialism
And he wants a no deal Brexit
Which would upset the balance on which all the
European Union countries are positioned;

The Ugly is Donald Trump, President of the USA,
Whose openly racist ideology should actually get him impeached
And as I said in a poem on PoemHunter, he is an oxymoron
A president of a democratic nation with a conscience like Canada and India
And a racist and bigot all in the same breath.

Brave utterances set aside for sober reflection. An insightful creation written with clarity of thought and mind. A work of an intricate mind. Thanks for sharing, Gayathri.
