A Priceless Alms
God was distributing joy and sorrow;
He asked me to make a request.
I said, 'Lord, grant me
A priceless gem as alms.'
I seek only that alms
Which fits within my palms;
I do not desire alms
That make me weep in joy or sorrow.
Grant me, as alms,
Just a single grain of food—
With it, I may feed the world,
And offer the rest as a sacred oblation.
I shall partake of a little myself,
And surrender the rest in devotion;
Grant me such alms, O Lord,
That I may offer this priceless gem as an offering.
